In 1995 I made a really unconventional discovery:
Leonardo da Vincis Vitruvian man is a rekursive geometrical algorithm for the approximation of the squaring of the circle!

In teamwork with the art historian Dr. Klaus Irle (Münster) we worked out the theme and presented our results on a congress on the history of math in Heidelberg in 1996 . Two years later our paperback about the Vitruvian man was published by Waxmann. The algorithm of the Vitruvian man became very popular in Germany and is now part of the math and art eduction at many grammar schools.
